Gemma and John’s day began with their ceremony at St Mary’s Church, Frittenden, Kent and then moved onto The Old Rectory in Maidstone for their reception. Great effort was made with the colour coordination, as you will see, even the sheep, yes I said sheep, had colour coordinated ribbons to match the bridesmaids dresses. Just to let you know that the sheep were part of the church and were in the church grounds!

• A bride that is healthy and glowing will look good in her wedding photos. You can do this by looking after yourself in lead up to your wedding. Make sure you drink loads of water in the months before your big day and eat sensibly.

• You may have very definite ideas about the wedding photos you want taken on your day, but listen to your wedding photographer and take advantage of their creative flair and photographic skill and experience. They are the professionals, and don’t forget you are paying them to get great shots, so use them.

• If you are not having a wedding toastmaster, have someone help your wedding photographers, may be a confident groomsman or bridesmaid, who can help identify family members and friends and can gather people for the group photos.

• Apart from the formal wedding photos, try to ignore the camera and your wedding photographer. Any good wedding photographer should be able to blend into the background and almost become a guest, so you are unaware of their presence. You then become much more relaxed and can enjoy your wedding . The most important thing is that you have fun and enjoy your wedding – have a great day.

• Even though candid and reportage style wedding photography looks beautiful, don’t forget to have the traditional formal group photos as well. One way to look at it, is like this, the informal, candid reportage style of wedding photography tells the story, in pictures, of your wedding day, while the formal group shots are a record of who was at your wedding. Also, older family members will very much appreciate the group pictures, as your wedding is one of those very rare occasions when whole families get together and is a  great opportunity to get those family group photos.

But the Le Spose di Gio collection also looks at the bridal outfit with a modern eye, their is a shift style dress and jacket, a short skirt suit with jacket nipped in at the waist and a long line jacket and trouser design. Showing that the label caters for more than the traditional venue and young bride.

The shift dress and skirt suit would make an ideal outfit for an older bride and the trouser suit a good choice for a unorthodox bride. For brides marrying on a beach there are a number of dresses with simple silhouettes and if you have chosen Greece for your destination wedding, a Grecian inspired gown.

There is still plenty to choose from for those brides who want a more traditional gown, though all the designs have a simple, understated look to them, the type of dress which the bride wears rather than the dress wears the bride and each allowing the bride to personalise her look with her accessories.

Sophisticated, elegant and timeless they are not only divine examples of wedding gowns, but beautiful dresses in their own right, and I agree that many of them could be worn again and again. Especially as white is the new black. Well, at least for formal outings on the red carpet.

My favourite from their selection is this number from Max Azria, (Far left in the image above) which is an ideal light and floaty wedding gown for a beach wedding and can be customized to suit any wedding theme by changing the colour of the ribbon.

As far as a wedding gown goes, I adore their two mermaid gowns with sumptous embroidery and beading, although I think their reusability is fairly limited.

Gary Harvey was the creative director for Levi Strauss for 10 years. He started designing his own dresses when he needed dramatic piece’s for the freelance fashion campaigns he was working on but his recycling of clothes started before then, when he was at college and could not afford to buy new fabrics, so he would use whatever he could find.

Gary’s first creation was a dress made from 42 pair’s of Levi 501’s with a corseted waist and teamed with a cropped demin jacket. Demin was first made as a work uniform and as Gary says jeans are “made in a fabric designed to last years” but since they have become part of everyday fashion they “are often discarded for the latest silhouette before the end of their useful life”

Since his first dress he has designed a dress from 28 army jackets fashioned into a fishtail cocktail dress. A gown from 30 copies of the Financial Times, which were attached to a salmon pink corset, to create a “tulle” skirt. And a gown made from 10 bridal dresses in white and cream, in both silk and polyester, with beaded bodices. Reconstructed to create a dress with a 6 meter diameter and worn with a bow-collared blouse.

Gary’s moviation for designing his collection “is about re-contextualising iconic, everyday garmets to create new silhouettes” and sees that “renewable fashion is just one way of dealing with the worlds limited natural resources.”
